Spareness

Nine years ago I photographed this exact scene in black and white. It was backlit and electric, a frame that celebrated pure abundance.

Not this time. This time it is about spareness.

My eye wanders down into the valley, into the darkest ground, resting in the middle of the frame.

The valley waits for the band of light on the mountainside to reach it. It will get there when it gets there.

No way to force it.
