I didn’t miss you at all

Sam in my chair missin' me

I spent four days in Washington DC last week. I was at a trade show. Sam was at home with 5 kids keeping them clothed, clean and fed. While I was on my “fun little vacation” as she puts it I only called her a few times. I was extremely busy and tired at the end of the day.

When I got home she asked “Did you miss me? I missed you.”

I said “no.

I didn’t miss you when I was on the plane looking down on the clouds remembering the clouds on our way to the Caribbean together.

I didn’t miss you during my sleepless nights while I hugged a pillow.

I didn’t miss you at all when I thought about each of our children and your hands helping them through their days.

I didn’t miss you at all when I saw a woman in the airport who looked like you and who had three kids with her.

I didn’t think about you whenever it was time for dinner and I could see you in my eyes mind with our kids at our dinner table in Idaho.

I never thought about what you really need in your life from me.

I never considered what to get you in the gift shop in the hotel.

I didn’t miss you when it was time to come home and the flight lasted forever.

I didn’t miss you, ever.”
