Landscape: Southern Utah

Southern Utah mountain

I’ve spent days photographing the mountains, rivers and canyons of Southern Utah through the years. It is a magnificant place to shoot.

This is a peak just outside of Zion National Park. What I like in the image is the rugged horizontal ridge with a rainbow. They make the image visually very interesting.

I have had people ask me if I feel OK about the foreground brush being out of focus. I don’t mind. It gives the viewer context to where they are standing as they look at the mountain.

An important concept in photography – FMB: foreground, middleground, background. All three work together to give the image dimension, shape and depth.
